What we do at Kangamiut

In the Kangamiut Group, we work actively to reduce our environmental and climate impact.

Yet, we realise that the impact of our business extends beyond our own relatively modest operations and entails the full value chain from primary fisheries via production and retailers to the consumer.

Therefore, despite the efforts and financial means invested in our decarbonization and nature preservation projects, we are aware that these will never compensate for the footprint of the final product.

More than 10% of profits reinvested into ESG projects since 2020

Since 2020, we have spent more than 10% of our profits after tax on environmental and social projects. These include:

  • Acquisition and protection of local forest
  • Acquisition of farmland for afforestation and nature reestablishment
  • Energy optimization and solar panels on company owned facilities in Denmark
  • Lifecycle assessment (LCA) for two main products
  • Employee ESG education and skills development
  • ESG consulting services
  • Financial support for ASC and MSC improvement projects

The 'G' in ESG:
Improving our governance

In Kangamiut Seafood and the Kangamiut Group, we are continuously working actively to improve our governance structures.

Over the last years we have, among other

  • simplified our organizational structure with the merger of Dansea Nordic and Northcoast Seafoods with Kangamiut Seafood to facilitate streamlining of our processes and procedures
  • elevated the Sustainability as well as Food Safety & Quality functions to be represented in the management team
  • professionalized and diversified our board of directors to profit from external expertise and equal representation of women and men in the board

In the end, a strong governance structure allows us the freedom to focus on what we are best at: Developing and nurturing strong partnerships within seafood.
