Background

How did two fish mongers and a scientist end up participating at La Marmotte?

To make a long story short: During a festive evening with our French partners from Freshpack and Direct Océan in March 2023, Nicholai and Thomas were "kindly invited" ( = provoked into taking part in a bet) to join Sébastien from Direct Océan in the cycling race "La Marmotte" in June 2024. Anne - trying to balance her fear of missing out with the absolute no go of joining the race herself - volunteered her husband Marc to represent Kangamiut; hence the participation of a scientist.

What is La Marmotte?

La Marmotte is a 177 km cycling race in the French Alps with a total climb of more than 5000 metres. The race starts in Bourg d'Oisans and passes the three peaks Glandon, Télégraphe, and Galibier, before the final climb up the infamous Alpe d'Huez where the race ends.

Did our heroes survive?

Not only did they survive. All three of them completed the race with grace and elegance of hitherto unknown dimensions (at least in Kangamiut) thanks to months of intense training, and - one might speculate - a great deal of stubbornness.

We are still waiting for our French friends to show us photo documentation of the Danish flag swaying in Boulogne sur Mer!
