Kangamiut was founded in 1975

2025 is a very special year for us here in Kangamiut Seafood and the Kangamiut Group as we are celebrating our 50th anniversary.

In 1975 “Kangamiut Fish Trade” was founded by Niels Vinther Rasmussen in partnership with Jørgen Urne who at the time was based in the little settlement Kangaamiut on the west coast of Greenland and from where the company has it’s name – even if we like to joke that we can neither spell, nor pronounce our name correctly...

Experts in global partnerships within seafood

In 1985, Niels acquired Urne’s shares in the company. Since then, Kangamiut has developed into a renowned player on the global seafood scene, expanding our product- and geographical range, sourcing mainly from the Barents Sea, Faroe Islands (picture to the left), Iceland, Chile, Canada, and the lakes of Kazakhstan, in addition to the country where it all started, namely beautiful Greenland.

In Kangamiut, we are experts in global partnerships within seafood thanks to our profound product knowledge, reliable delivery, and swift response. We are thrilled and proud to celebrate that we have been providing the world with quality frozen fish and seafood for now half a century!

Seafood with a twist & people you can’t resist

Today, the “Kangamiut Group” is the mother company while “Kangamiut Seafood” remains the main subsidiary, which is in the process of being merged with three other Kangamiut Group subsidiaries, namely Dansea Nordic, Northcoast Seafoods DK, and Icelandic G&K Seafood.

With the merger, Kangamiut Seafood stands stronger than ever thanks to our wide product range and our lovely and talented employees - or as we like to phrase it:

Seafood with a twist & people you can’t resist (and vice versa)

Family-owned
through generations

Our business model is based on partnerships: The companies in the Kangamiut Group are typically co-owned with local management. Each company operates independently while enjoying synergies throughout the group – and embracing our core values: Integrity, cooperation, and a solution-oriented mindset.

Our values are preserved and nurtured as Kangamiut remains a family business, owned by Niels’ wife Mona and their three children, Anne, Søren and Kirsten. Since the passing of Niels Vinther Rasmussen in 2021, Anne is the active family representative and Chair of the Kangamiut Group Board of Directors.

As a supplier and distributor of frozen fish and seafood the raw material of our business is, of course, the catch from the primary fisheries. However, our main strength as a reliable collaboration partner in the seafood supply chain is the people: Our trusted suppliers; our valued customers around the world;

and our dedicated employees and colleagues.

Together, we are more than ready for the

next 50 years of excellence in seafood!
